The Isle of Thanet Bird Club was formed several years ago by the amalgamation of the Margate and Ramsgate clubs.
It is believed that both of these societies date back, at least, to the 1930's. Both were "all variety" clubs, catering for Budgerigars,
all species and types of Foreign birds, European birds and hybrids, plus almost all varieties of Canary.
New members are always welcomed at meetings which are held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 8pm at the Old School
Hall in the High Street, Garlinge near Margate. These meetings are usually entertained by speakers, slide shows, quizzes
and small table shows.
A wealth of experience can be found among the members, some of whom have been fanciers for over 50 years!
Thanet club has contacts with many clubs overseas and is twinned with the "Bullfinch" club of Cologne, Germany.
The Thanet club gives support every year to to charity shows, helping to raise funds for the Kent air ambulance and also the Lord Whisky animal sanctuary.
An open show is held every year, see link below for reports and pictures
The open show for 2008 was a great success with over 300 birds entered. New pictures and a report in the following link.
